Target Customer Service

Target Corporation is America's second-largest discount retailer that was founded by George Dayton in 1902 in Minneapolis. However, its first store was opened 60 years later in Roseville, Minnesota. All Target locations make up a set of discount stores that carry hardlines, clothing, shoes, jewelry, beauty and health products, compact discs, electronics, sporting goods, pet supplies, hardware supplies, etc. All stores are unique and operate across the country either within malls or in urban locations.

These stores are especially designed to be much more attractive than large department stores. They have drop ceiling and wider aisles, a much more attractive presentation, cleaner fixtures and nice store personnel.

By 2006 Target Corporation expanded to 1,488 units and its sales reached up to $59.4 billion. Only in 2009 Target dared to expand outside of the continental States. There were opened two stores on the island Oahu, Hawaii and two stores in Alaska.

Today the number of Target Locations equals 1,767. The units serve the whole area of the United States except Vermont. In January 2011 the company announced its 1st international expansion into Canada. It purchased the leasehold for 220 stores of the sale chain of Canada. By 2013 and 2014 Target Incorporation plans to have nearly 150 stores opened.

Target Corporation has lots of exclusive deals with name-brands and designers. Among the most prominent are Isaac Mizrahi, Michael Graves, Liz Lange, Mossimo Giannulli, Converse, Fiorucci and others.

The company aims at increasing its fashion profile and creates its own ''Go International'' line that hires famous designers to create collections that would be available for a few months only. Target partners with national brands to design exclusive collections for Target locations. The Corporation has an exclusive deal with Food Network for selling DVDs of shows featuring Alton Brown, Paula Deen and Rachel Ray.

Currently, Target Corporation competes against Walmart and Kmart. And its international expansion can become a very effective tool in the process of taking the position of a leader.
