The FranklinCovey Company (New York Stock Exchange: FC), based in West Valley City, Utah, U.S., was formed on May 30, 1997 when Franklin Quest merged with the Covey Leadership Center, the firm created by Stephen Covey. It is the global leader in effectiveness training, productivity tools, and assessment services for organizations, teams and individuals. They are the company which markets the Franklin Planner. The Franklin Planner is recognized, at least in the North American marketplace as the premier date-book organizer. It has met with relatively less success in the software market than it has in the paper-based market.

The combined company has struggled since the merger. While the company has tried its best to leverage the Stephen R. Covey brand name and the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People franchise, it has met with limited success. The company has produced multiple derivatives of Covey's original work; none of these have risen to the level of the original. Neither have they provided the "next big thing" for FranklinCovey. As a result, FranklinCovey is reduced to a catalog seller of paper day planners, OEM Palm PDAs, assorted binders and other leather goods. The two main training courses offered are based on The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and a re-working of the original Franklin Quest time management program, now titled Focus. An initiative to take the Franklin Planner into the World Wide Web, which was begun with the now-defunct FranklinPlanner.com website never really took off.

Both Stephen R. Covey and Hyrum W. Smith, the CEO's of the former Covey Leadership Center and Franklin Quest have stepped down from the Co-Chairman/Co-CEO positions in favor of Robert Whitman, who also took an investment position in the company.
